Organizational Unit Overview

The Department of Kinesiology offers several academic programs and a variety of experiences for students. Our undergraduate academic programs include a B.S. in Exercise Physiology, B.S. in Health Fitness Specialist, B.S. in Physical Education, and B.S. in Sports Studies. Our graduate programs include a M.S. in Kinesiology (with concentrations in Adapted Physical Education, Biomechanics and Motor Control, Exercise Physiology, Physical Activity Promotion, Sport and Exercise Psychology, and Sport Management), a MAEd/M.A.T. in Physical Education, and a PhD in Bioenergetics and Exercise Science (with concentrations in Biomechanics and motor Control, Cellular and molecular bioenergetics, Exercise Physiology and behavioral science, and Nutritional exercise physiology).

Job Duties

East Carolina University seeks individuals to fill a nine-month tenure-track appointment in the Department of Kinesiology within the College of Health and Human Performance effective August 2018. The department seeks to attract a culturally and academically diverse faculty of the highest caliber skilled in the scholarship of research, teaching, leadership, and the application of knowledge. The successful candidate is expected to: teach in the areas of physical activity across the lifespan, sport psychology, exercise psychology, or exercise adherence, and to develop a nationally recognized research program evident by a strong publication record. Seeking external funding is expected. Substantial opportunities for collaborative research exist with faculty in the College of Health and Human Performance, Brody School of Medicine, and Departments of Public Health, Psychology, and Nutrition Science. Additional responsibilities include providing service to the university, community, and profession along with directing master’s thesis research and undergraduate advising.

Minimum Education/Experience

A doctoral degree in Kinesiology or closely related field (including but not limited to: Exercise and Sport Science, Sport and Exercise Psychology, Health Psychology, Public Health with Physical Activity Emphasis). Candidates with Ph.D. conferred at the time of initial appointment will hold the probationary rank of Assistant Professor. ABD candidates will also be initially appointed with the probationary term rank of Assistant Professor and must have the terminal degree conferred prior to your first reappointment.

Preference will be given to those with relevant post-doctoral experience in kinesiology or a closely related field (including but not limited to: Exercise and Sport Science, Sport and Exercise Psychology, Health Psychology, Public Health with Physical Activity Emphasis).
